MARETE SHOOTS 1M KSHS VIDEO

A scene from the Kelele video
Los Angeles based TV host and former Miss Universe - Kenya, Rachel Marete, has made a her debut into music with her first single, Kelele. The song, which was produced in Los Angeles, is bound to take the industry by storm because not only is it a house music club banger, but the TV host cum songstress also shelled a whopping Kshs. 1 million to shoot its video with the super-talented new kid in the block, director Andrew Macharia.
A. Macharia has not only shot ground-breaking Kenyan videos like Camp Mulla's Fresh All Day, Kanja and Naomi's Paradise, Sauti Sol's Money lover, K-Letta and Amina's Paint the Town Red and Bamboo and Sugar's 25Flow but is also an established Los Angeles director working with such big names as Young Jeezy, Frankie J and Akon Just to mention a few. The video for Kelele was also produced by Phi-Ny.
"Though produced in Los Angeles, my music was made for Kenyans," the beauty queen said in an interview. "Therefore, I thought shooting the video in Kenya would add to its authenticity. However, I wanted to prove wrong the myth that good quality videos cannot be shot in Kenya. I knew the only way to do that was by working with Phi-Ny and Macharia because I knew them from Los Angeles and I had been privy to their work. I knew that only they would understand my vision and help me execute it the right way since I know how they work and they know me too. Good quality is expensive so the budget was realistic for the type of video I wanted made. The director pulled all stops and we are all really excited about it."
Speaking to the director Andrew Macharia he says that the video is bound send shock waves through the industry. "There's a lot of talent in Kenya but we lag behind the big talents from countries such as Angola, Nigeria and South Africa because while they spend millions of shillings for quality productions, a lot of our artists simply wing it by spending little amounts and hoping for a good outcome. In order to truly compete, an artist must be willing to do what it takes to have a great product and it was a pleasure to work with someone who understood that well. Rachel definitely pushed boundaries with this video from her performance to everything else so expect this to be epic," says the director Macharia, now dubbed the new wonderkid director.
The anticipated video is set to debut tomorrow. The 26 year old beauty queen is no stranger to glamour. Her job as a red carpet host in Hollywood and Sky's 664 channel has her hobnobbing with some of the biggest stars in the world frequently. Therefore, we expect nothing short of the best from her and her new singing career.
